1857 Estey & Green as received at the shop
This organ had some significant case problems: one of the leg brackets was loose, and the whole "undercarriage" made the instrument's support wobbly. The finish was lovely--the organ had been refinished some years ago. Note the small brass knob at the bass end--supposedly a stop knob, but current non-functional.
Estey & Green as received...
The push rods are missing. There is duct tape covering the relief valve opening as well as the edges of the equalizer--not a good sign.
Case problems
The wood holding the bass front leg socket plate will no longer hold screws, and therefore is no longer secure. It will have to be chiseled out and a repair glued in. The light-colored area on the case corner shows where the leather pad for the folding leg once hit. The screw hole on the case edge remains a mystery!
Case problems
The lyre leg, upside down: the stretcher hooks over the pin at the bottom of the picture, and has a metal projection that sits in a casting that is held into the recess by a single screw. The screw hole was worn out, and the leg wood broken.
Wind System
The equalizer had been recovered, somewhat clumsily. An attempt was made to seal leaks along the edges of the bellows cloth with black-colored duct tape.
